This is it, your last chance to nail that roll or bow stall in our warm pool this year. 2 two-hour pool sessions to try everything from basic handling to advanced play-boating to working on that all-important roll at the same spacious Garfield Pool we’ve had for years.
Likely BBQ or restaurant outing afterwards and we’ll want help moving racks and boats to summer storage spots.
Online booking only as the online systems aids tracking and makes life easier for our volunteer administrators.
You will not be admitted until you have signed up, so you may as well do it now.
$10 CASH SURCHARGE.
Everything -especially boats – must be clean of all dirt and debris. We reserve the right to refuse entry. If you’d be willing to help check boats please contact the coordinator. See kccny.org/events/categories/pool-session/ for all rules and procedures.
INSTRUCTION:
Chris Dubetsky and Andy Lioasa (ACA certified instructor) will be attending and providing instruction to beginners in handling and rolling.
We have plenty of skilled instructors at all sessions who can help with getting you started and basic rolling. Just ask (or flounder and someone will probably offer to help).
Also happening at this pool session (usually with separate registration required):
Basic whitewater safety items that can make coordinating or assisting with trips easier and safer include boat plowing, paddling, carrying someone else’s paddles, and towing people.
EQUIPMENT:
Equipment is available to borrow including boats, paddles, skirts helmets and life jackets but takes time to arrange so reach out well beforehand. You can’t just show up and expect equipment. As we’ll be moving boats to summer storage we may have fewer boats there this week then usual.
Details on borrowing equipment.
If you’re bringing a boat other than a whitewater kayak note that when you sign up. Don’t expect to paddle a larger boat around much but you should be able to practice rolls and re-entries. Getting a long or big boat in the pool is challenging. The largest boat we’ve gotten in is a low volume 17 foot sea kayak.
Fragile boats are not recommended. Neither KCCNY nor the participants will be responsible for equipment damage.
