KCCNY has sponsored a trail cam gauge on the Moodna, one of our favorite ungauged local rivers. Realtime cellular rivercam data and setup thanks to https://rivercam.io/ using with Spypoint brand cellular trail cameras that support time-lapse.
The system Rivercam has put in place auto-posts the 3 most recent pictures. Pictures intervals are adjustable and up to 100 pictures per month are transmitted monthly (so set and forget at 3 per day, or adjust with more pics during rainy periods and fewer during dry spells).
KCCNY has the budget and interest to put similar cameras on ungauged rivers or stretches of rivers in our paddling region. Beyond a cellular signal and some initial work in set up and calibration and very occasional visits for maintenance, not a whole let is required. Batteries last for months.
