The Tohickon is the first northeast release of the year. A great step up river with drops not normally found on a class 3 river. March paddling can be cold water, cold air paddling, so participants should have cold weather gear, an 95% roll.
We’ll have at least 1 well well-guided lap for first-timer Toher’s who are comfortable on Class 3, but with cold spring water this is not a good day to step up for those without a dry suit and cold water roll. Adding to the difficulty level, the Toh, unlike most rivers we paddle, is silty so underwater visibility is virtually non-existent.
Camping and parking at take-out if the Delaware isn’t flooding. $20/car. https://rivercountry.net/nockamixon-dam-release/
We’ll open up registration once we’re fairly sure it will happen. Obviously we need water, but Spring Toh is often hampered by flooding on the Delaware which floods the parking area.
