Hey all—planning a Lehigh River weekend and would love to get a group together.
The Lehigh River offers a fun and approachable Class II–III whitewater experience, with a steady mix of moving current, splashy wave trains, and a few more technical sections to keep paddlers engaged. It’s a great river for building skills and confidence, with forgiving lines, plenty of recovery pools, and lots of opportunities to catch eddies and play along the way. At typical release levels, the rapids are lively but manageable, making it ideal for novice/intermediate paddlers or confident beginners looking to step up, all set against a scenic backdrop of forested hills and railroad-lined riverbanks.
Typical plan (flexible based on interest/weather):
- Saturday: Section 2 (Rockport → Glen Onoko 13 miles)
- Sunday: Section 1 (White Haven → Rockport 9.1 miles)
Logistics:
- Camping at Riverview Park (Friday + Saturday nights, site reserved)
- Primitive campground — bring your own water for drinking cleaning etc.
- Right on the river, at the bottom of Section 3
On the water:
- Relaxed but engaged pace—with plenty of time to play,
- Lunch/snack break somewhere scenic
Food & extras:
- Potluck style — bring something to share and help out
- KCCNY will have a gas griddle + some food on Saturday evening
Gear:
- Water will be cold → proper gear required (drysuit/drytop/wetsuit)
- No cotton
