I’m sure you’ve heard of or seen the destruction from Hurricane Helene in Tennessee and North Carolina. Many communities are devastated, Downtown Asheville is all but gone, and rivers like the Pigeon, Green, Nolichucky, and more are forever changed.

KCCNY is planning something for donations, but for now, check out this link from Boyd Ruppelt of Jackson Kayak to find some local orgs/rescue outfits to donate to. American Red Cross is always good if you’re looking for an easier path to donate.

American Whitewater with its home office in Brevard, NC and much of its staff in the area  was greatly effected.
Kevin Colburn. National Stewardship Director recommended an excellent resource, and is organized by boaters, hurricanehelenewnc.com/.

American Rivers
‘Flooding like this is becoming more and more common as climate change fuels more frequent and intense storms. The climate crisis is a water crisis. But just as rivers are where we’re seeing the worse impacts of climate change, rivers can also be the source of solutions to make communities stronger and safer…. While we support the… the cleanup effort, we are also redoubling our advocacy for solutions that make communities stronger and safer, and rivers healthier, in this era of climate change.
If you’re looking for a way to help those affected, here is a good place to start.

From Club Member Helga Trocha:
Hearts w/Hands is in Swannonno County, which I was told was hit hardest. https://www.heartswithhands.org/and https://baptistsonmission.org/Mission-Projects/By-Mission-Type/Disaster-Relief/Hurricane-Helene. You can’t go wrong with either. Outside the Tri-state [NY NJ CT] area churches are a huge integral part of community and the lives of people.

Going forward, KCCNY is hoping to put together a fund raiser and make contributions in line with our purpose to promote the conservation and restoration of rivers particularly in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic regions.  Please contact us if you’d like to help or like to add an organization to this list.
