Julie McCoy, multi-certified instructor, will be bring sea kayaks and teaching open water rescue and re-entry, a must for anyone venturing far from shore or paddling where you can’t easily get to shore to re-enter (like much of NY Harbor with its miles of bulk-headed shoreline).
Julie is also certified for rolling instruction.
Note you must sign up separately for the pool session.
As a side note, though we are primarily a whitewater club, we do occasionally do open water trips and are fully insured for open water.
Julie will have a sea kayak you can use.
If you’re bringing your own kayak it needs to be absolutely clean as we can’t get anything in the pool. Helmets and pfd’s required. Larger kayaks may not fit thru the entrance to the pool. The largest boats we’ve gotten in are low volume 17 footers.
KCCNY has whitewater boats and helmets you can borrow (and you can learn to roll in any boat).
