Great day to get everyone started on whitewater.
On the Mongaup at 1 barrel it’s a great chance to surf some waves, catch some eddies. Water will be warm but still cool, so neoprene, drytop or a big boat recommended.
Ivan Schwartz will coordinate a Delaware River trip which is a great way for beginners to try their whitewater boats in moving water and for more recreational paddlers to join us on the water.
The Delaware should be around 5000 cfs, a level that should scoot you thru the pools and hide the rocks and create some powerful but avoidable waves and eddy lines…a great level for floating and learning.
The sections of the Delaware around the Mongaup has lots of strong eddy lines and even some easy surf waves. We’ll be paddling from the mouth of the Shahola down to the Mongaup takeout…a longer paddle mostly away from the road.
If you’re bringing a guest along for the BBQ or can help with purchasing or set up or bring something special please note comments/questions.
KCCNY will cover the cost of the main course (burgers or the like). Please bring an appetizer, side, salad or dessert to share and your own beverages.
Most likely we’ll be meeting and BBQing at the make out take out before the bridge. Erik Werner will be spearheading the BBQ so reach out to him if you can help or want to take over.
If there’s interest we’ll be teaching rolling or safety in the pool below the bridge BBQ location.
Though not a club activity, Mike Fine will be mountain biking either before or after. Reach out to him directly if interested.
