**THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER TRIP**
Enjoy a weekend of boating in the Adirondacks. There are several Class II+/III options in the Chestertown/Johnsburg NY area. This is just south of the Hudson Gorge Wilderness area. These include: Sacandaga W. Branch (8 miles long), Hudson: Riparius to The Glen (7.5 miles long), Schroon River (~5 miles long), to name a few. All rivers mentioned are fed by natural flow, selection will be dependent upon water level.
Potential dates: 4-5 April, 11-12 April or 25-26 April.
We can plan a later start on Saturday for anyone making the drive Saturday morning.
Participants need to be able to read and run Class II+/III, have a dry suit (or thick neoprene with dry top) and appropriate layers, as the water is still extremely cold. We prefer if you executed that pool roll you’ve been working so hard on all winter. But if you do end up out of your boat, you need to be able to competently and efficiently swim in Class III, preferred if you can get boat and self to an eddy unassisted.
Currently, planning on primitive camping, Friday & Saturday, off of one of the many sites on Route 8 just southwest of Baker’s Mills. GPS pin will be sent to registered participants.
Restaurants, convenience stores and gas stations are about 20 minutes from the area we would primitive camp. Please consider this in your planning.
