KCCNY owns and can loan out to members the a variety of basic whitewater gear including kayaks, spray skirts, helmets, PFDs and neoprene for KCCNY Club events only*.
In general, we have adequate gear to get teenagers and most adults adults started in whitewater paddling. Nothing state of the art, not the perfect fit, but good enough for you to learn the basics.

Chris C. on Flume at bulls bridge in loaner rpmThough we expect a little wear and tear, borrowers are expected to return equipment in a timely manner and to replace broken or damaged equipment with similar (or better) equipment or pay a reasonable replacement cost.

Prospective members should contact us for more info about loaners.

Please allow several days (or more) to arrange logistics.

For non-drivers, getting equipment to the pool is not a big deal. We’ll do our best to get equipment to a river, but whitewater kayaking pretty much requires a vehicle. You’ll may be asked to visit a member’s house for fitting and paperwork.

Once you’ve agreed to borrow equipment you’ll need to fill out our KCCNY EQUIPMENT LOAN AGREEMENT Club to Member.

Inflatables: We own a raft and a single and tandem star inflatable kayaks aka duckies. Inflatables are a great way to let folks like family and friends experience the thrills of whitewater.
Duckies are much more stable than ‘hard shell’ kayaks and allow paddlers with little or no experience to paddle real whitewater. As they take special care, we generally add these as part of trip sign ups.

*Events need to be on our schedule and insured by KCCNY. Coordinators must be KCCNY members. Another member or guest must participate. In other words, as long as a member is paddling with someone else, follows some basic procedures and submits some paperwork it’s a club event.
