We may choose either Section I or Section II, depending on the water levels and paddler skills. Section II, from Rockport to Glen Onoko, covers 12 miles and features some exciting and challenging Class III rapids, including Little Swimmers, Pipeline, and Tower.
With recent rains we’re hoping to have a normal release level or even slightly more.
We’ll dedicate time to practicing skills like eddy turns, ferries, surfing, and rolling, with breaks as needed along the way.
Expect to spend about 5-6 hours on the water.
As always, paddlers should “dress for the swim.” While the water is warming up, it’s still likely in the mid-50s°F. Recommended gear includes either a drysuit or a semidry top paired with a 3mm neoprene Farmer John/Jane wetsuit, and/or a full-sleeve neoprene jacket.
Paddlers should be comfortable with self-rescue techniques, but a roll is NOT required.
Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and a dry bag for any essential items you need to keep dry.
