I’m planning a run on the Tariffville section of the Farmington River this Saturday, April 18. This is a short but fun stretch with a mix of quick-moving current, wave trains, and a few technical spots to keep things interesting.
At typical spring levels, expect Class II with some III moves, especially around the main rapid at Tariffville Gorge. It’s a good run for paddlers who are comfortable catching eddies, making moves in current, and staying in control in tighter channels.
drysuit strongly recommended (or at minimum a full wetsuit with appropriate layers). Dress for the swim, not the air.
