Tohickon Creek
6011 State Park Road, Pipersville, PA, 18947

Event Type

3.5 mile creek, class 2 with 2 class 3+ sections. Fun creek with 5 x 3 foot ledge drops. People flock from miles around to camp out and paddle this Saturday – Sunday festival. Paddlers should have an 80% roll, all necessary white-water gear + cold weather gear (good wet suit or dry suit).

The Tohickon is the last (and first) northeast release of the year and the traditional end (and start) of the paddling season for many. A great step upriver with drops not normally found on a class 3 river, but the spring release’s cold water makes is less forgiving on swims (or multiple rolls). Generally a good river for someone who was already comfortable on class 2+ like the last rapid on the Mongaup at 2 barrels.

Most drops have some pretty straightforward lines as well as a few spots where things get exciting, so well guided which our trip should be it’s a good step up. (Top picture is coordinator Peter Nolan going over Ohiopile Falls. Biggest drop on the Toh is about 3′.

Fall Toh is relatively warm. Coordinator Peter Nolan is a great guide so this is the day to step up.

Camping at take-out if the Delaware isn’t flooding is usually $20 for the entire weekend in a typical paddlers scene, starting loud and dying down pretty quickly.

This is really a 2-day event, with many folks camping or staying in the area, but enough folks do 1 day that we thought it easier to track as separate days, plus separate coordinators spread the load. If you are planning on paddling Sunday why not coordinate? Learn more
