Deerfield, Monroe Bridge (Dryway)
1 Depot St, Monroe, MA, 01350

Event Type

The Dryway is one of New England’s best-loved release runs — a tight, continuous stretch of the Deerfield below the Fife Brook dam that comes alive on scheduled release days, and it packs a lot of punch into just a few miles. With releases scheduled both Saturday and Sunday, this is a full weekend of paddling, so we’ll run it twice and take our time.

We’ll keep a relaxed pace and run laps if the group is up for it. There’s plenty of camping nearby, and the area makes an easy basecamp for the weekend — bring what you need to make a full two days of it.

Required gear: a river-running whitewater kayak (for first-timers), helmet, PFD, and a drytop or drysuit, plus adequate food and water for the day. The Deerfield runs cold even in July.

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER TRIP. PADDLERS MUST HAVE PREVIOUS CLASS III+ EXPERIENCE, BE ABLE TO SELF-RESCUE, AND HAVE A RELIABLE COMBAT ROLL — YOU WILL NEED IT!
